General Electric Appliance Services: A Rip-off

General Electric Appliance Services at www.ge.com/appliances/usa/custser/index.htm is a rip-off.

I had my 5 year old, GE microwave (part of a built-in Microwave/Oven combination) serviced by GE Appliance services when it broke down. At the time, the servicemen on the call (Walt & Ron) put in a new capacitor, which had a 5 year warranty with it.

The microwave broke down again and we called in GE Appliance services. The serviceman who came out on October 29, 1998, claimed that he did not have the part he needed and placed an order for the part. He returned on November 13, 1998 with the part he had ordered. After he replaced the part he realized that he had made an error and that the part that needed replacement was the capacitor, the same part that was replaced earlier (and under warranty).

When we told him that the part was under warranty, he called the service center and was told that they did not have records. Fortunately, we were able to produce records. The serviceman then said that it would cost us only $100.00 since the part was under warranty.

Well, GE has a great game going. They install crappy parts in their appliances. Then they charge to fix it, again with crappy parts. Finally, they rip you off with a $100 service charge to fix a faulty part that they put in on an earlier call

You are warned. Only a crazy person would do any business with this company; you are asking to be ripped-off.
