Description &
Instructions
This program will allow you to work with newsgroups. To install the program (news.exe), download it to an empty directory by clicking on the icon in the top left corner. Then, double click on news.exe on your drive and allow it to unzip files into the ulnet\nx directory. Finally, move the file ctl3dv2.dll from the \ulnet\nx directory to the \windows\system directory. Make sure you do not replace a more recent version, if one exists. To create an icon for this program, drag the nx.exe program to any group you want to put it in.

To use the program, first double click on the icon you have created for nx.exe or double click on nx.exe from file manager. Then click on the config menu option and go to setup. It will produce a dialog box. In the box for NNTP Server, type "netnews" (not the quotes). In the box for SMTP server, type in "netnews.louisville.edu". In the Personal information boxes, type in your name and e-mail address in the appropriate boxes. For e-mail address, you need to type in your userid@ulkyvm.louisville.edu. For file and path name, in the home directory, type in c:\ulnet\nx and for News RC file type in newsrc. You are ready to use the news program. Close the program as you do any Windows program and re-open it. Wait for a minute or so (for it to read news groups) and click on the first open folder from the left. You will find a list of over 4,000 newsgroups that you can browse, subscribe to, etc.

This is an excellent news program -- among the best on the market -- and it's free!
